CBI takes Police Custody of two accused in a CWG 2010 case, who were absconding

The Central Bureau of Investigation has taken 05 days Police Custody for the interrogation of two accused persons in a case relating to awarding contract for Time, Scoring, Result in CWG-2010. Both accused, who were absconding, have surrendered before the Trial Court of New Delhi on 16.08.2011 after relentless pressure exerted by the Investigating Agency. The Trial Court had remanded them to Judicial Custody on their surrender.

The two accused who were absconding had allegedly played a vital role in getting contract for Time, Scoring, Result award to a Switzerland-based company at a exorbitant cost and were themselves beneficiaries of the contract. Due to perservance and relentless effort by CBI, the absconding accused were forced to surrender before the Court. The Bureau had moved Court for attaching the properties of the accused. Non-bailable arrest warrants were issued by the Special Judge, CBI which could not be executed. Consequently, the Court ordered proclamation U/s 82 Cr.PC against both these absconders which were published in leading newspapers through out the country. Thereafter, CBI attached moveable properties of the accused from their office and residence at Faridabad (Haryana). In spite of this, the accused persons persistently did not join trial and filed various petitions in the Trial Court as well as the High Court. No relief was granted to the accused. Even the Hon�ble Supreme Court did not deem it appropriate to grant relief to the accused. The Bureau then moved to attach their immoveable properties, that is, house, office etc., after which, the absconders were forced to surrender.

The CBI filed a charge sheet in the case on 20.5.11 against 11 accused persons/companies, which included both absconding accused persons. The case against them was U/s 120B, r/w 420 IPC & Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.

During investigation, CBI had apprehended accused O.C officials, including Chairman, Organising Committee. However, both accused partners of Faridabad-based company were absconding, during investigation.
