Eight accused persons sentenced to undergo Life Imprisonment for murder of Shri Paritala Ravindra, The Then MLA of Andhra Pradesh.

The Principal District and Sessions Judge, Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh)has today convicted 08 accused persons, namely Panduga Narayana Reddy; Vallupalli Rekhamaiah; Ranganayakulu; Vadde Konda; Vadde Seena; Medimi Obi Reddy; Peddi Reddy & Vanna Hanumantha Reddy and sentenced them to undergo Life Imprisonment, in a case relating to murder of Shri Paritala Ravindra, the then sitting MLA of Penugonda constituency in Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh.

It was alleged that Paritala Ravindra, then sitting MLA of Penugonda constituency in Anantapur District, A.P was murdered in the broad day light inside the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) office campus, Ananatapur on 24.01.2005 where more than 500 party members had gathered. The assailants had come in the guise of armed security personnel. Three accused persons had shot at Paritala Ravindra with revolvers while he was about to leave the party office. Other accused persons threw bombs outside the TDP office. The case was very sensational. The motive was found to be age old family rivalry between his family and that of Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy, the main conspirator. A case in Crime No. 15/2005 of II Town P.S., Anantapur was earlier registered by the local police. On request of Andhra Pradesh Government, this case was transferred to CBI on 03.02.2005. The Special Crime Branch of CBI, Chennai registered the case and took up the investigation.

CBI Investigation revealed that the conspiracy was hatched by Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy @ Suri while he was undergoing life imprisonment for an earlier attempt to kill Paritala Ravindra on 19.11.1997, which was popularly known as Jubilee Hills Bomb Blast case. CBI had utilised the services of scientific aids like ballistic experts of the Central Forensic Laboratories, New Delhi & Hyderabad and polygraph tests etc. CBI had also exhumed the body of deceased Paritala Ravindra and collected vital evidence like the catridges etc. which were not recovered earlier during post mortem examination. It was further revealed that accused Julakanti Srinivasa Reddy, Narayana Reddy and Rekhamaiah had shot Paritala Ravindra inside the TDP office whereas accused Ranganayakulu, Vadde Seena and Vadde Konda had thrown bombs outside the TDP office immediately after the shoot out, in order to facilitate escape of the said three shooters. The remaining accused persons had provided logistic support for the accused at Anantapur, before and after the commission of the offence.

On completion of investigation, CBI filed charge sheet on 26.04.2005 against 13 accused persons namely viz., Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy; Julakanti Srinivasa Reddy; Panduga Narayana Reddy; Vallupalli Rekhamaiah; Ranganayakulu; Vadde Konda; Vadde Seena; Medimi Obi Reddy; Ram Mohan Reddy; G.V. Reddy; Peddi Reddy; Vanna Hanumantha Reddy and Thopudurthi Konda Reddy, for commission of offences punishable u/s.120-B IPC r/w.147, 148, 149, 201, 212, 302, 307, 324, 326, 397 IPC, Sec.25(1B) (a) and Sec.27 of The Arms Act, 1959 and Sec. 3&5 of The Explosive Substances Act, 1908 and Substantive offences thereof.

Accused Julakanti Srinivasa Reddy who was absconding at the time of filing charge sheet was arrested by CBI later on 13.12.2005. Further on 30.11.05, a Suplementary Charge Sheet was filed by CBI against 3 more accused persons viz., Vistilli Anandkumar Reddy; Patlola Govardhan Reddy and Ramasamy for commission of offences punishable u/s.120-B IPC r/w 302 IPC.

Charges were framed against the accused persons on 18.12.2007 by the trial court. During the course of trial, 133 witnesses were examined by the prosecution, 268 documents and 68 Material Objects were marked as Exhibits. During trial 3 accused persons namely viz., Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy; Julakanti Srinivasa Reddy and Thopudurthi Konda Reddy had died and therefore the case against them were abated. One of the accused Rama Mohan Reddy had turned approver. The Trial court had acquitted 04 accused persons namely viz., G.V.Reddy; Anantha Kumara Reddy; Patlola Govardhan Reddy and Rama Swamy.
