DEPUTY CHIEF PERSONNEL OFFICER OF RAILWAYS SENTENCED TO UNDERGO TWO YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT IN A BRIBERY CASE

The Special Judge, CBI cases, Jabalpur has convicted Sh. Vaibhav Chouhan, the then Dy. Chief Personnel officer (HQ), West Central Railway, Jabalpur and sentenced him to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with a total fine of Rs.10,000/- u/s.7, 13 (2) r/w 13 (1) (d) of PC Act. 1988.

The instant case was registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation, u/s 7 of P.C. Act 1988, on the basis of a complaint against Shri Vaibhav Singh Chouhan, the then Deputy Chief Personnel Officer (HQ), Western Central Railway, Jabalpur alleging that Shri Vaibhav Singh Chouhan while functioning as a public servant on 4.6.2007, demanded a bribe of Rs.2,00,000/- from the complainant for showing him official favour in the matter of confirmation to the post of bungalow peon in West Central Railway. It was also alleged that upon expressing inability by the complainant to arrange Rs 2,00,000/-, the accused directed the complainant to pay a part amount of Rs. 50,000/- as advance by the afternoon of 8.6.2007 and to pay the balance amount later on. On 8.6.2007, a trap was laid by the CBI wherein Sh. Vaibhav Chouhan was caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000/- from the complainant at his residence in Railway Colony, Pachpedhi, Civil Lines, Jabalpur.

After conducting thorough investigation, CBI filed charge sheet before the court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Jabalpur on 22.4.2008, U/s. 7 & 13 (2) r/w 13 (1) (d) of PC Act, 1988.

The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
