THREE ACCUSED CONVICTED IN DR. KAVITA RANI MURDER CASE

The Special Judge for CBI cases, Ghaziabad, (U.P) has convicted three accused Ravinder; Sultan Singh & Yogesh today in Dr. Kavita Rani murder case. Accused Ravinder & Sultan Singh have been held guilty U/s 120-B IPC r/w Section 364, 384, 302 & 201 and accused Yogesh U/s 120-B IPC r/w 384 IPC. The court has also ordered that Dr. Mairajuddin Ahmed, the then Irrigation Minister of Uttar Pradesh should be tried for perjury U/s 340 Cr.PC as Dr. Mairajuddin Ahmed had resiled from his statement recorded under section 161 Cr.PC during the course of his deposition in the court.

The Central Bureau of Investigation had registered a case on 12.01.2007 on the request of Uttar Pradesh Government. Earlier, the case was registered by the UP Police U/s 147, 364, 506, 302, 201 IPC & 120-B IPC. It was alleged that Dr. Kavita Rani, an Ad-hoc Lecturer of Choudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut (UP) disappeared on 23.10.2006.

After thorough investigation, CBI filed a Charge Sheet in the Court of Special Judicial Magistrate for CBI cases, Ghaziabad, (UP) on 23.03.2007 against accused Ravinder Pradhan, Ravinder; Yogesh; Sultan Singh and Ashok Kumar. Accused Ravinder Pradhan died in jail during the course of trial on 29.05.2008. After conclusion of the trial, the Court found the accused persons guilty of offences and convicted them.

The sentence will be pronounced by the Court on 23.09.2011.
