CBI ARRESTS AN INCOME TAX OFFICER AND A CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT IN A BRIBERY CASE

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Income Tax Officer and a Chartered Accountant for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs. 1.5 lakh from the complainant.

A case was registered against an Income Tax Officer, Ward No.19(3)(1), Piramal Chamber, Parel, Mumbai and a Chartered Accountant U/s 120(B) of IPC and Section 7 of PC Act, 1988 on the allegation that the Income Tax Officer had demanded Rs.1.5 lakh as bribe from the complainant through a CA for getting favourable order in A.Y. 2009-2010 pending with him. A trap was laid and the CA was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs. 1.5 lakh on behalf of ITO, Parel, Mumbai. The ITO was also arrested. Both the accused, earlier remanded to Policy Custody, have now been sent to Judicial Custody by the Designated Court. Searches conducted at the residential and office premises of the accused persons resulting into recovery of an amount of Rs.24,39,000/- (approx) from the premises of CA.
