CBI FILES THREE CHARGESHEETS IN SEPARATE CASES REGARDING ALLEGED CORRUPTION IN NORTH CACHAR HILLS AUTONOMOUS COUNCIL (NOW IN DIMA HASAO)

The Central Bureau of Investigation today filed three charge sheets in three separate cases regarding alleged corruption in North Cachar Hills, Autonomous Council (Now Dima Hasao) in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Guwahati.

In the first case relating to Public Works Deptt., a chargesheet U/s 120B, 420, 468, 471 IPC and Sec.13(2) r/w 13(1) (c) & (d) of P.C.Act, 1988 has been filed against the then Chief Executive Member, NCHAC; Executive Engineer; Sub-Engineer-II; Junior Engineer; Asstt. Executive Engineer (Retd); Accounts Officer (Retd.); Cashier of PWD, Mahur Road Division, as well as two Pvt. Contractors for misappropriating a sum of Rs.1.74 crores sanctioned for execution of works relating to clearance of landslide, cutting of roadside drain etc. at 40 spots at Harangajao Sub- Division under Mahur Road Division.

In the second case relating to Public Health Engineering Deptt., a chargesheet U/s 120B, 409, 420, IPC and Sec.13(2) r/w 13(1)(c) & (d) of P.C.Act, 1988 has been filed against the then Chief Executive Member, NCHAC; Executive Engineer, PHE, Haflong; one UDA of District Library and two contractors, all residents of Haflong for misappropriation of an amount of Rs. 1.98 crore (approx.).

In the third case relating to the Agriculture Deptt.(Engg.), a chargesheet U/s 120B, 409,467,471, IPC and Sec.13(2) r/w 13(1)(c) & (d) of P.C.Act, 1988 has been filed against the Asstt. Executive Engineer(Engg.) and Asstt. Agriculture Engineer of Agricultural Deptt.(Engineering), Haflong for misappropriating a sum of Rs.15.75 lakh, out of Rs.18.75 lakh sanctioned for execution of work under IJDP scheme.

The Govt. of Assam had referred 9 cases to CBI on alleged corruption in North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (Now Dima Hasao). 5 cases were referred in 2010 and 4 cases in 2011.

The public is reminded that the above findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and evidence collected by it. Under the Indian Law, the accused are presumed to be innocent till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial.
