CBI ARRESTS A TERRITORY MANAGER OF BHARAT PETROLEUM CORPORATION LTD. AND AN INSPECTOR OF CENTRAL EXCISE IN SEPARATE CASES OF BRIBERY

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Territory Manager of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.(BPCL), Lalru(Punjab) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.Three Lakh from the complainant.

A complaint was received in CBI from a complainant of Radaur, Distt. Yamunanagar against a Territory Manager, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Lalru(Punjab) in which he had alleged that his wife along with another person were owners of a petrol pump in Distt. Yamunanagar, and he was managing the affairs of said petrol pump on behalf of his wife. In the first week of November, when he contacted the concerned official for supply of petroleum products at Oil Depot, Panipat, it was informed to him that supply to their petrol pump has been stopped at per the orders of Territory Manager, BPCL, Lalru. Upon which, the complainant contacted him. He had demanded Rs.5 lakh for release of supply. The complainant requested that he was not in a position to pay that much amount, the accused told him to pay Rs.3 lakh for releasing the supply.

Accordingly, a case U/s 7 of PC Act, 1988 was registered against Territory Manager, BPCL, Lalru(Punjab). CBI laid a trap and the the Territory Manager, BPCL, Lalru was caught red handed while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.3,00,000/- from a hotel in Ambala City in the presence of independent witnesses.

The arrested accused was produced before the competent Court and remanded to 14 days Judicial Custody.

In another case, the Central Bureau of Investigation has caught red handed an Inspector of Central Excise, Range-III, Division-I, Ankleshwar for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.5000/- from the complainant.

It was alleged in the complaint that the complainant had supplied some goods to a Company on 24.10.2011 and had to provide the intimation to Central Excise Office in writing by 25.10.2011. Due to this delay, receipt of the monthly Return filed by the complainant was not acknowledged by the Inspector, Central Excise. The accused informed the complainant that the same will be acknowledged only after he pays an illegal gratification of Rs.5000/- to settle the matter of delay intimation. CBI laid a trap and the accused was arrested while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.5000/- from the complainant.

The arrested accused was produced before the Special Judge for CBI Cases and was remanded to 14 days Judicial Custody.
