DIVISIONAL ENGINEER OF RAILWAY SENTENCED TO UNDERGO FOUR YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT IN A BRIBERY CASE

The Special Judge, CBI Guwahati has convicted Sh. Brijesh Galav, the then Divisional Engineer (D.En-I), N.F. Railway, Tinsukia (Assam) and sentenced him to undergo four years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.35,000/- U/s 7 & 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988 in a bribery case.

The investigation revealed that Sh. Brijesh Galav demanded a bribe of Rs.50,000/- from a contractor when he was posted as Divisional Enginner-I, Tinsukia Division, N.F. Railway. The aggrieved contractor then lodged a complaint to the CBI ACB Guwahati branch. CBI laid a trap and Sh. Brijesh Galav was arrested while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000/- from the complainant.

A chargesheet was filed on 07.01.2010 in the Court of Special Judge, CBI, Guwahati. During trial of the case, charges leveled against Sh. Brijesh Galav was proved.

The Trial Court convicted the accused and sent him to Jail.
