FIVE ACCUSED SENTENCED TO UNDERGO TEN YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT IN A CASE RELATING TO GANG RAPE OF MINOR GIRL IN KILLIROOR, KOTTAYAM(KERALA)

            The Special Judge for CBI cases, Thiruvananthapuram has today sentenced five accused persons i.e. Praveen; Manoj; Ms. Latha Nair; Binu @ Kochumon and Prasanth U/s 120B IPC, 366-A IPC & 376 IPC to undergo 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine varying from Rs.10,000/- to Rs.25,000/-each in a sensational Killiroor Sex Scandal Case. The fine amount of Rs.One Lakh will be given to the parents of the victim for the welfare of minor child.

 

            CBI took over the investigation of Crime No.188/2004 dated 16.09.2004 of Police Station Kumarakom, District Kottayam(Kerala), on the request of Kerala Government and registered a case on 27.01.2005 against accused Omanakutty, Praveen; Manoj and Ms. Latha Nair for the offences punishable U/s.366-A & 34 IPC.

 

            CBI investigation revealed that the minor girl was enticed by the accused persons by luring her with the offer of chances in Television Serials. She was taken to various places and gang raped. Consequently, she became pregnant and delivered a baby girl on 15.08.2004 in Medical College Hospital, Kottayam. During the post delivery treatment, she suffered from sub-acute intestinal obstruction for which she had undergone laparoscopy and two laparotamies. During further treatment, she was affected by septicaemia and died on 13.11.2004.

 

            After completion of the investigation, a charge sheet was filed before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ernakulam on 08.06.2006 against 09 accused persons i.e. Omanakutty; Praveen; Manoj; Ms. Latha Nair; Binu @ Kochumon; Prasanth; Somanathan; Abdul Lathif & V.R.Devadas, U/s 120B IPC r/w 366-A, 376 (2) (g), 506(1), 109, 212 and 420 IPC and substantive offences therefore. Later, the cases were transferred to Special Court for CBI cases, Thiruvananthapuram.

 

            The case against Abdul Lathif & V.R.Devadas was split up as the charge against them was only U/s 212 IPC i.e. habouring accused Ms. Latha Nair and is continuing. Accused Omanakutty was taken as Approver.

 

            The Trial Court convicted the five accused on 06.02.2012 and acquitted Shri Somanathan.

 

            This was a sensational case which attracted wide attention of media and public in Kerala.
