Press Release
New Delhi , 13.02.2012

Recently there have been some media reports, particularly in the local media in Jodhpur (Rajasthan), that CBI has been reportedly "harassing" some persons, women & children during the investigation of Smt. Bhanwari Devi abduction & murder case.

CBI denies such allegations as totally baseless, and wishes to clarify that investigation by the CBI is conducted under the provisions of the CrPC & the CBI Manual 2005. CBI has not called any children for questioning in the said case.

CBI also wishes to inform that today (13.02.2012) a petition filed by Smt. Amari Devi, alleging harassment by the CBI in the said case, was disposed off by the Jodhpur Bench of Rajasthan High Court when the CBI made submission that all its investigations are conducted as per the provisions of the CrPC. The High Court also observed that CBI or any investigation agency can summon any person during the investigation in accordance with the provisions of the CrPC.

Reports of alleged harassment seem to be malicious with an objective to hamper the probe.
