CBI SEIZES ANTIQUE SCULPTURE BEING SMUGGLED OUTSIDE INDIA; ONE PERSON ARRESTED

            The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested one person, an accused a resident of Delhi who was involved in smuggling of sandstone sculpture part of Indian Cultural Heritage (picture enclosed)

 

            A reliable information was received by CBI that racketeers involved in smuggling of Indian Cultural Heritage are likely to export a 16th Century sand stone sculpture depicting Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, on the basis of forged documents.

 

            Based on this information, a surprise check was conducted on 28.03.2012 at the Air Cargo Warehouse at IGI Airport, New Delhi and aforesaid stone sculpture dating back to 16th Century AD was seized. This was being smuggled out of the country in the guise of marble tiles. Destination of the sculpture was Hongkong. The antique sculpture is suspected to be stolen.

 

            The arrested accused is being produced today in the Designated Court, Delhi.

 

            Further investigation is in progress.
