DELHI BASED COUPLE SENTENCED TO UNDERGO TWO YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT IN A CASE RELATING TO MALTREATMENT OF MINOR DOMESTIC HELP

            The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Delhi has sentenced Sh. Sunil Kumar Jha and his wife Smt. Jhalki Devi resident of Uttam Nagar, Delhi to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.6,000/- each in a case relating to maltreatment of minor domestic help. The couple was also ordered to pay a compensation of Rs.20,000/- to the victim failing which they would have to undergo three months simple imprisonment.

 

            A case was registered by CBI on 07.06.2010, on the allegation that one Sunil Kumar Jha and his wife Jhalki Devi resident of Uttam Nagar, Delhi were keeping minor maid servants through placement agency at their house, who were not allowed to go outside & confined to their house and often maltreated by the couple. CBI took up the investigation on a reference received from Delhi High Court.

 

            After thorough investigation, CBI filed a chargesheet during October, 2010 in the Designated Court at Delhi. The Trial Court held both the accused guilty for wrongful confinement; voluntary hurt and convicted them.
