THEN METROPOLITAN MAGISTRATE DELHI SENTENCED TO UNDERGO THREE YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT IN A BRIBERY CASE

            The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Delhi has sentenced Shri Gulab Tulsiyani, the then Metropolitan Magistrate, Delhi to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with a total fine of Rs.50,000/- in a bribery case.

 

            CBI had registered a Case on 6th June, 1986 U/s 161 Cr. PC against Shri Gulab Tulsiyani, Metropolitan Magistrate, Delhi against whom one Proprietor of Delhi based private firm had lodged a complaint to CBI. It was alleged that a Challan had been filed against the Proprietor by Delhi Municipal Corporation in January,1985. For compelling circumstances, he could not attend the Court on 2 or 3 dates for which a bailable warrant was issued against him. He attended Court at 1200 hours on 4.6.1986. By the time, the Magistrate had ordered for reissue of arrest warrants. The complainant was called by Shri Gulab Tulsiyani to his Chamber and was asked for a bribe of Rs.2000/- to be paid at his residence next day. The complainant did not want to pay bribe and lodged a complaint in CBI.

 

            A trap was laid by CBI on 7.6.1986 and the accused Shri Gulab Tulsiyani was caught while accepting a bribe of Rs.2000/- from the complainant.

 

            After thorough investigation, CBI filed a Charge Sheet against Shri Gulab Tulsiyani U/s 161/201 IPC and U/s 5(2) r/w 5(1)(d) of the PC Act, 1947 in the Designated Court at Delhi

 

            The Trial Court convicted the accused on 25.04.2012.
