THEN SIX OFFICIALS OF UTTAR PRADESH POLICE SENTENCED TO UNDERGO RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT OF THREE TO TEN YEARS IN THE DEATH OF SHRI RAJU, RESIDENT OF BULANDSHAHR

            The Special Judge for CBI Case, Ghaziabad has today sentenced accused Uma Shankar, the then Sub Inspector; Dina Nath Mishra, the then Inspector & Pramod Kumar, the then Police Constable to undergo ten years Rigorous Imprisonment and Data Ram Nanuria, the then Sub Inspector; Vishwa Nath Mishra, the then Sub Inspector & Ranjit Singh, the then Police Constable to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment, all of Uttar Pradesh Police in a case related to death of Shri Raju, a resident of Village Jevar, Distt. Bulandshahr.

 

            The Central Bureau of Investigation had registered a case on 12.01.1996 U/s 120-B IPC r/w 304, 342, 218 and 201 IPC on the orders of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India dt. 26.09.1995 in Writ Petition (Crl.) No. 425/95 filed by Smt. Ram Kali mother of deceased Raju, resident of Village Jevar, Distt. Bulandshahr.

 

            It was alleged that the accused persons were party to a criminal conspiracy at Khurja, Meerut & other places and in pursuance of the said criminal conspiracy, they picked up victims Sh.Raju & seven others on 07.05.1995, illegally detained and mercilessly beaten them causing grievous hurt. During their detention, grievous injuries were caused to Sh. Raju and he died due to the injuries on 16.05.1995 in Medical College, Meerut.

 

            After completion of investigation, a chargesheet was filed on 29.09.1996 against accused Uma Shankar, the then SI; Dina Nath Mishra, the then Inspector; Data Ram Nauneria, the then SI; Vishwa Nath Mishra, the then SI; Ranjit Singh, the then Police Constable & Pramod Kumar, the then Police Constable U/s 120-B IPC r/w 304, 325, 342, 201, 218 IPC and substantive offences U/s 304, 325, 342, 201 and 218 IPC and against Mange Ram, the then Police Constable U/s 120-B r/w 201 IPC and 201 IPC, in the Court of Special Judicial Magistrate, CBI, Dehradun.

 

            The Trial Court found the then six officials of Uttar Pradesh police guilty and convicted them yesterday. Shri Mange, the then Police Constable was acquitted by the Court.
