TWO YEARS RIGOROUS IMRPRISONMENT TO AN OFFICIAL OF GARRISON MILITARY ENGINEERING SERVICE IN A BRIBERY CASE.

            The Special Judge for CBI cases, Chennai convicted Shri R. Ekambaram, the then Senior Mechanic Garrison Military Engineering Service and sentenced him to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 15,000 in a bribery case.

 

            A case was registered by CBI on 20.09.2005 on a complaint against Shri R. Ekambaram, a senior Refrigeration Mechanic working in the office of the Asst. Garrison Engineer / Electrical & Maintenance, Military Engineering Service, St. Thomos Mount Chennai for demanding a bribe of Rs.1,00,000/- from the complainant for not implicating his name in a case pending investigation with CBI. The accused Shri R. Ekambaram claimed that he was an informer to CBI and had very close links with CBI officials.

 

            A trap was laid by CBI on 20.09.2005 and Shri R. Ekambaram was caught red handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs. 11,000/- from the complainant.

 

            After completion of investigation, a charge sheet was filed against Shri R. Ekambaram in the court of Special Judge for CBI cases, Chennai u/s. 7 and Sec. 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

 

            The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him after trial.
