CBI REGISTERS A CASE AGAINST THEN VICE CHANCELLOR OF INDIRA GANDHI NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY AND OTHERS IN A CASE RELATING TO ALLEGED IRREGULARITIES IN GRANT OF APPROVAL TO CERTAIN COURSES

            The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against a former Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University and unknown office bearers of two other Universities based at Jalandhar & Gangtok U/s 120-B IPC r/w Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988. It was alleged that the accused, while functioning as Vice Chancellor of IGNOU & also the Chairman of Distance Education Council, had abused his official position in granting approval to two Universities based at Jalandhar & Gangtok for running courses in Distance Education Mode, ignoring the deficiencies pointed out by the Expert Committee during 2009.

 

            Searches were conducted at the residence of former Vice Chancellor at Thiruvanthapuram which led to recovery of documents related to property/investments.

 

            Further investigation is in progress.
