FOUR YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT TO THEN BRANCH MANAGER OF STATE BANK OF INDIA AND FOUR OTHERS IN A CHEATING CASE

            The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Guwahati has convicted Shri N.G.Palit, the then Branch Manager, State Bank of India, Manja Tiniali Branch(Assam) & four others i.e  S/Shri Binod Barman;  Hareswar Boro;  Sonsing Rongpi & Mukut Chetia and sentenced them to undergo four years Rigorous Imprisonment with a total fine of Rs.55,000/- for cheating the Bank to the tune of Rs.3.63 lakhs(approx).

 

            The investigation revealed  that Sh Nani Gopal Palit while posted and functioning as Branch Manager, State Bank of India, Manja Tiniali Branch, during the period from 11.12.89 to 13.05.93 entered into criminal conspiracy with other 4 accused persons.In pursuance thereof, he fraudulently & dishonestly sanctioned and disbursed 73 Nos. of Direct loans and 18 Nos. under IRDP Scheme to non-existent & fictitious persons.Thereby, the accused cheated the bank to the tune of Rs.3.63/- lakh(approx.)

 

            After thorough investigation, a charge sheet was filed  on 21.12.2000 in the court of Special Judge, CBI, Guwahati.

 

            The Trial Court found the accused persons guilty and convicted them.
