CBI REGISTERS TWO CASES AGAINST TWO PRIVATE COMPANIES & OTHERS ON ALLEGATIONS OF FALSE CLAIMS MADE IN CONNECTION WITH COAL BLOCK ALLOCATION; CONDUCTS SEARCHES

            The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered two separate cases against two private companies, their Directors and unknown public servants. The cases have been registered to look into the allegations related to allocation of coal blocks on the basis of misrepresentations and false claims in the applications & in the presentations made by companies. Promoters of one company are alleged to have sold their stakes after allocation of coal block.

 

            Searches are being conducted today in seven cities across the country including Nagpur, Chanderpur(Maharashtra); Kolkata, Asansole, Purulia(West Bengal) and Ghaziabad(UP) in the official & residential premises of the accused persons and their firms.

 

            A preliminary enquiry to examine the irregularities, if any, in the allocation of coal blocks by Ministry of Coal during the period 2006-09 was registered on a reference from CVC, in June this year. CBI had earlier registered five cases in this regard and conducted searches at 30 locations on 04.09.2012.

 

            Further investigation is continuing.
