PRIME MINISTER Dr. MANMOHAN SINGH WILL INAUGURATE THE 19th CONFERENCE OF CBI AND STATE ANTI-CORRUPTION BUREAUX ON OCTOBER 10, 2012

            The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the 19th  Conference of the Central Bureau of Investigation and State Anti-Corruption Bureaux on Wednesday, 10th October, 2012 at the Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The Prime Minister will also present the President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service to CBI Officers; and will honour CBI Investigators for outstanding performance.

 

            Union Minister of State for Personnel,  Shri V. Narayanasamy will preside over the Valedictory Session of the Conference on 11th October, and will present Police Medals for Meritorious Service to CBI Officers.

 

           The two-day Conference, organized and hosted by the CBI, will focus on the ‘Role of Anti Corruption Agencies in the Economic Development of the Country’.  Issues to be deliberated upon are:  Policy Challenges in the Allocation of National Resources; Constitutional Principles & Application of Criminal Law in Allocation of Resources; Use of Technology in Tackling Corruption; and, Asset Recovery in Corruption Cases.

 

Sessions will be addressed by eminent speakers which include Shri Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister for Rural Development; Shri Pradeep Kumar, Central Vigilance Commissioner; Shri Rahul Bajaj, Industrialist; Shri PV Jayakrishnan, Chairman, Centrally Empowered Committee; Shri Goolam E. Vahanvati, Attorney General of India: Shri Harish Salve, ASG; Shri Siddharth Luthra, ASG; Shri Raghu Raman CEO NATGRID and Ms Neten Zangmo, Chairperson Anti-corruption Commission of Bhutan. Senior officers of the Govt Of India, Vigilance Commissioners, legal luminaries, technologists and senior CBI officers will participate in the panel discussions.    

 

            CBI officers and representatives of Anti-Corruption and Vigilance agencies from the States and Union Territories, will also share best practices with regard to anti-corruption investigation and deliberate upon the emerging challenges in tackling the menace of corruption.  

 

            This Conference of senior officers of anti-corruption & vigilance agencies in the country was first organized by CBI in 1961 with an aim to provide all the investigating agencies of the country engaged in the task of fighting corruption with a common platform to share information, discuss issues of common interest and evolve strategies to combat corruption.  This is the 19th Conference in this sequence
