CBI ARRESTS A SUPERINTENDENT OF POLICE FOR ACCEPTING A BRIBE OF RS. ONE LAKH

              The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Superintendent of Police(City) in Chandigarh (an IPS Officer) for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs. One lakh from the complainant.

 

            It was alleged in the complaint received from an official of Chandigarh Police mentioning that the SP(City) was his supervisory officer.  A departmental enquiry was initiated against the complainant on the basis of a report of SP(City) in connection with a case for dereliction of duty, in-subordination and not informing the senior officers about crime.  It was further mentioned in the complaint that, the SP called the complainant to his office and also at his residence. After discussion, the SP allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs.5 lacs for not harassing him and helping in inquiry pending against him and deposing in his favour.  When the complainant expressed his inability to pay such a big amount, the SP(City) reduced the amount to Rs.2 lacs. A case was registered against the SP(City), Chandigarh U/s 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 by CBI.

 

            CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.One lakh from the complainant.

 

            The arrested accused is being produced today before the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Chandigarh. 

 

            Further investigation is continuing.
