CBI ARRESTS THREE RAILWAY OFFICIALS IN SEPARATE CASES OF BRIBERY

            The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered three separate cases of bribery U/s 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and arrested three officials of Central Railways.

 

            In the First Case, the CBI has arrested Senior Divisional Engineer, Central Railway, Nagpur for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.3.53 lakh from the complainant.

 

            It was alleged in the complaint that the accused had demanded one percent commission of the total amount of bills as bribe from complainant for smooth running of contract agreement pertaining to supply of stacking of ballast & loading the same into railway's hoppers at Hinganghat depot. CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed for having demanded and accepted the bribe amount of Rs.3.53 Lakh at his residence.

 

            In another case, a complaint from Railway Contractor received alleging that an Office Superintendent(Rates), Central Railway, Nagpur had demanded a sum of Rs.One lakh as a bribe for smooth running of contract agreement. A trap was laid and the accused was caught red handed while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs. One Lakh from the complainant.

 

            In a similar case, the CBI has arrested another Office Superintendent of Central Railway, Nagpur for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs. One Lakh from the complainant. The complainant had alleged that the Office Superintendent of Central Railway, Nagpur had demanded bribe for the bills against which payment has already been made and also for the bills whose payments are due in respect to the contract for supply of ballast that was awarded to his firm. A sum of Rs.49,000/- was also recovered from his personal search which is in addition to the bribe amount.

 

            All the arrested accused were produced in the Special Court for CBI Cases, Nagpur and were remanded to Police Custody till 14.12.2012.
