FIVE YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT WITH FINE OF RS.50,000/- TO JUNIOR ENGINEER OF PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT IN A BRIBERY CASE

            The Principal District Judge, Puducherry has convicted Shri.G Malaimani, the then Junior Engineer of Public Works Department (PWD), Puducherry in a bribery case and sentenced him to undergo five years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.50, 000/-

 

            A case was registered based on the complaint of a contractor of Public Works Department, Puducherry alleging that Shri G.Malaimani, while working as a Junior Engineer, in the Office of the Executive Engineer, Public Works Department, Puducherry, demanded a bribe of Rs.20,000/- from him for clearing the pending bills relating to repairs & alteration work of office in the civil supplies office building at Puducherry, which was undertaken by him. Subsequently, a trap was laid by CBI and during the trap proceedings, Shri G.Malaimani was caught red handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs. 20,000/- from the complainant.

 

            After completion of investigation, a charge report was filed against Shri G.Malaimani by CBI before the court of Principal District Judge, Puducherry U/s 7 and Sec 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988

 

            The Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
