CBI ARRESTS A MEMBER(STAFF) OF THE RAILWAY BOARD NEW DELHI; MANAGING DIRECTOR OF BANGALORE BASED PRIVATE FIRM AND FOUR OTHER PRIVATE PERSONS IN A BRIBERY CASE

            The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Member(Staff) Railway Board, New Delhi; Managing Director of Bangalore based private firm; his two associates , a private person who is resident of Chandigarh; and another private person from Panchkula(Haryana) on allegations of bribery.

 

            A case was registered by CBI U/s 120-B of IPC and Section 7, 8 10 of PC Act, 1988 againstMember (Staff), Railway Board, New Delhi; two Chandigarh based private persons;Managing Director of a Bangalore based Private Firm; a private person based in Panchkula(Haryana) ; two private persons of New Delhi and one private person of Faridabad(Haryana), on the basis of source information

 

            It was alleged that the private person based in Panchkula(Haryana) had demanded an illegal gratification of Rs. 10 crore from then General Manager, Western Railway, Mumbai(Now, Member(Staff), Railway Board, New Delhi) for securing him the post of Member (Electrical). The Private Person from Panchkulawas further in contact with two other persons of Chandigarh.

 

            In the meantime,the General Manager(Western Railway) Mumbai, was appointed Member (Staff), Railway Board New Delhi and he requested the Panchkula and Chandigarh based private persons that until he is appointed as Member (Electrical), he should be given the additional charge of General Manager, Western Railway and S & T(Signal & Telecommunication), for which the private person demanded an illegal gratification of Rs. two crores immediately and that the balance amount for appointment to the post of Member (Electrical) may be paid later. The Member(Staff) Railway Board allegedly arranged for Rs. two crores as illegal gratification from a Managing Director of a Bangalore based private firm and other businessmen/industrialists dealing with the Railways for making payment to Panchkula & Chandigarh based private persons. The Managing Director agreed to arrange the money in lieu of official favours.

 

            The MD of Bangalore based private firm could arrange only an amount of Rs. 90 lakh, which was to be paid to Panchkula based private person on 03.05.2013(yesterday) at Chandigarh on behalf of Member(Staff) Railway Board, New Delhi.

 

            CBI laid a trap and both private persons of Panchkula & Chandigarh were caught having accepted the said amount of Rs.90 lakh from the two associates of one private person of New Delhi(an acquaintance of Managing Director of Bangalore based private firm).

 

            Searches were conducted at various places including the residence of Member(Staff) Railway Board at Delhi & Mumbai and connected places of other accused at Chandigarh, Panchkula, Bangalore & Delhi. Incriminating documents have been recovered.

 

            The arrested accused are being produced today in the Court of Special Judge for CBI cases, Patiala House Courts, New Delhi.

 

            Further investigation is in progress.
