THREE YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT TO A POLICE OFFICIAL OF SILVASSA IN A BRIBERY CASE

            The Special Judge for CBI cases, Silvassa has convicted Smt. Jyoti Patel, then Sub Inspector of Police Outpost Pipariya, Silvassa(Dadra & Nagar Haveli) and sentenced her to undergo three years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs.12000/- in a bribery case. One Private Person Sh. S. Thirumalai was also convicted and sentenced to undergo one year Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 2,000/-.

 

            CBI had registered case against Smt. Jyoti Patel and Shri S. Thirumalai Kumaran(a private person) U/s.120-B of IPC r/w. Section 7 of PC Act, 1988 and 13(2) r/w. 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988 on the allegation that the accused entered in criminal conspiracy with private person and demanded an illegal gratification of Rs.2000/- from the complainant for not arresting him in a FIR No.146/10 dt.10/6/2010 registered against him in the Police Station Silvassa.

 

            A charge-sheet was filed on 15-12-2010 in the court of Special Judge for CBI cases, Silvassa against Smt. Jyoti Patel and Shri S. Thirumalai Kumaran

 

            The Trial Court found both the accused guilty and convicted them.
