THREE YEARS IMPRISONMENT WITH FINE OF RS.25,000/- TO THEN OFFICIAL OF PUNJAB NATIONAL BANK FOR MISAPPROPRIATION OF RS.11.39 LAKH

            The Special Judge, CBI, Guwahati (Assam) has convicted Shri Kabin Chandra Kalita, the then Cashier, Punjab National Bank, Extension Counter, NIRD, Khanapara (Guwahati) and sentenced him to undergo three years imprisonment with fine of Rs. 25,000/- U/s. 409 IPC and Section 13(2) R/w 13(1)(c) of Prevention of Corruption Act., 1988.

 

            This case was registered on 29.06.2004. On completion of investigation, CBI filed a Charge Sheet on 20.12.2006 against the accused Kabin Chandra Kalita U/s. 409 & 477A IPC and Section 13(2) R/w 13(1)(c) of Prevention of Corruption Act., 1988 for misappropriation of an amount of Rs. 11,39,700/-(approx). The accused manipulated the various deposits of the customers of bank in respect of various accounts during period 1999-2003 and misappropriated the same.

 

            The Trial Court found the accused guilty & convicted him.
