CBI ARRESTS AN MLA OF KARNATAKA IN AN ON-GOING INVESTIGATION RELATING TO ALLEGED ILLEGALITIES IN THE EXPORT OF IRON ORE FROM THE BELEKERI PORT

        The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an MLA of Kudligi Assembly Constituency of Karnataka in an on-going investigation relating to alleged illegalities in the export of iron ore from Belekeri Port in Karnataka.

 

         This case was registered by CBI on 13.09.2012 U/s 120-B r/w 420, 379, 411, 447 IPC, U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of the PC Act,1988, U/s 21 r/w 4(1), 4(1)(A) & 23 of the  Mines and  Minerals (Development  and Regulation) Act,1957 and Sec.24 of Karnataka Forest Act, 1963 on the directions of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in WP(Civil) 562 of 2009 and other connected matters to investigate into the alleged illegalities committed by various persons in the export of iron ore from Belekeri Port in Karnataka.

 

         It was alleged that the MLA is the Partner of a private firm which had procured and sold around 6.05-lakhs MT of iron ore to another private firm for the purpose of export which were illegally excavated.  

 

         The arrested accused is being produced today before the Designated Court at Bangalore.

 

         Further investigation is continuing.
