CBI ARRESTS AN MLA OF KARNATAKA IN AN ON-GOING INVESTIGATION RELATING TO ALLEGED ILLEGALITIES IN THE EXPORT OF IRON-ORE FROM BELEKERI PORT

            The Central Bureau of Investigation has today arrested an MLA of Vijayanagara Assembly Constituency, Karnataka in connection with the on-going investigation relating to alleged illegalities in the export of iron-ore from Belekeri Port in Karnakata.

 

            This case was registered by CBI on 13.09.2012 U/s 120-B r/w 420, 379, 411, 447 IPC, U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of the PC Act-1988, U/s 21 r/w 4(1), 4(1)(A) & 23 of the Mines & Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act,1957 and Sec.24 of Karnataka Forest Act, 1963 on the directions of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in WP(Civil) 562 of 2009 and other connected matters to investigate into the illegalities committed by various persons in the matter of export of iron ore from Belekeri Port in Karnataka.

 

            It was alleged that the MLA, the Proprietor of Hospet(Karnataka)-based private Minerals Company & partner of another Hospet-based private Minerals company, had allowed illegal excavation of iron ore from their plot to the tune of 1.31 lakh MT and sold the same to Bangalore-based firm who in turn had sold the same to other Hospet-based firm without permits by taking cash, for the purpose of export from Belekeri Port.

 

            The arrested accused was produced today in the Designated Court at Bangalore and was remanded to Police Custody till 26.10.2013.

 

            Further investigation is continuing.
