         The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an absconding accused in a case relating to alleged issuance of 263 numbers of forged KVP certificates for Rs. 2.63 crores(approx).


         CBI had registered a case on 02-12-2004 on a complaint received from Postal Department, West Bengal Circle, Kolkata regarding purported issuance of 263 numbers of forged KVP Certificates amounting to Rs 2,63,00,000(approx) by three Agents of Directorate of Small Savings, Government of West Bengal.


         On completion of investigation, a chargesheet was filed against then agent of Directorate of Small Savings, Government of West Bengal Circle, Kolkata and then Postal Assistant (Incharge) of Govinda Khatik Road Sub Post-Office, Kolkata-700046 u/s 120B r/w 420, 467, 468 & 471 of IPC and Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988 and substantive offences on 21.12.2006. The then Postal Assistant expired on 12-01-2013. The other accused(said agent) was absconding since September, 2003 i.e. prior to registration of this Case and his name was shown as absconder in the chargesheet.


         On 17.06.2005, while the investigation of case was in progress, CBI also declared a Reward of Rs 50000/- for furnishing information leading to his apprehension. On 22.09.2005, he was declared Proclaimed Offender by the Court of Special Judge, Kolkata.


         In the process of efforts to apprehend absconding accused, CBI got a clue that the family of said absconder was residing at Bikaneer and Jodhpur(Rajasthan) . On enquiry in the locality at Jodhpur, it could be gathered that his wife was staying there since 2006 but her husband never visited their address at Jodhpur. It was found that calls used to be received on every night in the phone of his wife were from two particular phone numbers of Badrinath(Uttrakhand). The said two numbers were standing in the name of two different persons and the absconding accused was allegedly using the said two phone numbers from Badrinath. At Badrinath, he was one amongst the alleged Trustees of a Ashram, and had large number of followers / disciples. He used to communicate with his followers in Hindi, Bangali, Maitheli and Bhojpuri languages. After putting efforts, CBI arrested him.


         The arrested accused was produced today before the Designated Court, at Kolkata and was remanded to Judicial Custody upto 20.07.2015.
