         Shri Rupak Kumar Dutta, an IPS Officer of 1981 Batch (Karnataka Cadre) today took over as Special Director in the Central Bureau of Investigation in New Delhi. Prior to his appointment as a Special Director, he was holding the post of Additional Director in CBI and looking after Anti Corruption(HQ) Zone, Patna Zone, Hyderabad Zone, Chennai Zone, Economic Offences Zone-I, Bank Securities & Frauds Zone and Delhi Zone.

         Shri Dutta has earlier held several important positions in Anti Corruption, Training, MDMA & other Divisions / Zones in CBI from 1988 to 1996 and 2000 to 2006 including the post of Joint Director, DIG and SP. He has been associated with the investigations of a number of sensitive cases, including those entrusted to CBI by the Supreme Court and High Courts that ended in convictions of the accused persons.


         Shri Dutta has held various positions in Karnataka, as Superintendent of Police, Karwar & Davanagere; DIGP, Intelligence, Security Vigilance & Northern Range and IGP North Eastern Range. He has served as Additional Director General of Police(Law & Order) and also as ADGP in Karnataka Lokayukta.


         Before joining CBI, he was Director General of Police, CID, Special Units & Economic Offences in Karnataka.


         Shri R.K.Dutta, a B.Tech from IIT Kanpur and M.B.A from Swinburne University, Australia, has been decorated with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
