SHRI ALOK KUMAR VERMA TAKES OVER AS DIRECTOR, CBI

         Shri Alok Kumar Verma, an IPS Officer of 1979 Batch (AGMU Cadre) today took over as Director, Central Bureau of Investigation. Before joining, he was serving as Commissioner of Police, Delhi.

       Shri Verma has served on various positions and dawned many roles in his career spanning 37 years. Prior to assuming the office of Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Shri Verma was Director General of Prisons, Delhi; Director General of Police in Mizoram; DGP, Puducherry and IGP, Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He has held several important positions in UT Cadre in Vigilance, Intelligence, Crime & Railways, Administration as Special Commissioner, Joint Commissioner Range & Deputy Commissioner, South District. He has also served as FRRO, New Delhi.

        For a man who believes in the transformational role of technology, Shri Verma has led various projects across organisations to ensure early adoption of technology in policing. While serving as Chief of Police in Mizoram, Puduchery and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri Verma introduced a slew of reformative & progressive measures for streamlining the services and uplifting the moral of his team. He has undertaken various steps to boost the morale of the staff, such as, transparency in promotion and recruitment of junior level officers across the four organisations he headed.

        Being Commissioner of Police, Delhi, he pitched against stagnancy by invoking timely promotion of the staff. He was very concerned about the security and safety of the citizens. He introduced women PCR in the capital. His endeavour has been to strengthen the framework of police accountability through police-public interaction, community policing, visibility of police, convenience to public through prompt action, fair and transparent handling, apprehending hardened/desperate criminals and prevention of crime. Shri Verma has introduced steps to bring in greater transparency, be it for procurement, registering of complaints or recruitment of entry level staff for the force. He has introduced on-line police applications for obtaining various types of Licenses, safety and security of senior citizens. Shri Verma has been a champion towards the cause of improvement of welfare of the force.

 Shri Alok Kumar Verma is a Post Graduate in History from St.Stephen College, New Delhi. He has been decorated with the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2003 & Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1997.

 After taking over as Director CBI, Shri Verma conveyed that his top most priority will be fair, impartial and conclusive enquiries and investigations with utmost courage and conviction to bring out the truth.

 He emphasized that officers of CBI need to keep themeselves abreast of changes in legal landscape, especially in respect of Economic Offences and Cyber Crime domains.

 He encouraged the officials of CBI to work as a team with a spirit of mutual trust so that the faith of common people and judiciary in the organisation is sustained. He also underlined the urgent need to ensure timely promotions and redressal of grievances which is essential for the morale of the Organisation.
