SEVEN YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT, FINE OF Rs. ONE CRORE TO THEN MANAGER OF NTPC’S SUPER THERMAL POWER STATION, KORBA

            The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Raipur has convicted Sh. Jaideep Das, then Manager (Finance & Accounts), Korba Super Thermal Power Station, Korba and sentenced him to undergo seven years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. One crore.

            CBI had registered a case on 01.07.1999 U/s 420, 468, 471 of IPC and Section 13 (1) (d) r/w 13 (2) of PC Act, 1988 on a complaint against Sh. Jaideep Das, then Manager (Finance & Accounts), Korba Super Thermal Power Station (NTPC), Korba and private persons including his wife on the allegations of causing loss to NTPC to the tune of Rs. 1,70,61,649/- in the matter of false claims of commission charges towards expired/exhausted foreign letter and credits (FLCs) issued by NTPC to foreign suppliers.

            After investigation, a chargesheet was filed against the accused on 27.11.2002 in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) U/s 420, 468, 471 of IPC and Section 13 (1) (d) r/w 13 (2) of PC Act, 1988.

            The Trial Court has found the then Manager guilty and convicted him. His wife and other private persons were acquitted by the Court.
