On 18.5.1996 at about 1925 hours a bomb explosion took place in the Swamy Sannithi second praharam in Meenakshi Amman Temple, Madurai a famous and historical religious place of worship for Hindus causing minor damage to the temple premises. Investigation carried out by CBI revealed that Venkatesh @ Sheik Dawood mustafa was involved in the blast.
